Solar across Met-Ed's eastern Pennsylvania territory
Met-Ed provides service to Reading and most of Berks County, to Lebanon in the Lebanon Valley, and throughout Adams County around Gettysburg. Lifestyle Solar serves this area as part of our growing eastern Pennsylvania presence, and we manage the Met-Ed interconnection and county permitting on your behalf.
Net Metering with Met-Ed
Met-Ed participates in Pennsylvania's net metering program, which Pennsylvania requires of every investor-owned electric distribution company in the state. When your system generates more electricity than your home uses, the excess goes to the grid and you earn kilowatt-hour credits. Those credits offset your usage during times when your panels produce less, like evenings or cloudy days.
Billing After Solar
Your Met-Ed bill still includes a fixed customer charge and distribution fees. The generation portion, usually the biggest part of the bill, gets offset by the energy your panels produce and the net metering credits you have banked. During high-production months, your bill may drop to the basic service charges.
Credit Rollover and True-Up
Credits are applied at the full retail rate during the billing period and carry forward month to month. Pennsylvania runs a 12-month rolling cycle, and at the annual true-up any remaining excess credits are compensated at the price-to-compare rate, which is typically lower than retail. We size every system to match your household's actual usage, so you are not overproducing and losing value at the lower payout.
Interconnection with Met-Ed
We handle the interconnection process with Met-Ed from the initial application through final approval.
Site Assessment and Design
We evaluate your property and energy usage to design a system that fits your needs. The Met-Ed territory mixes older brick construction downtown with newer suburban homes in the townships, and many homes carry steeply pitched roofs built for snow shedding that also provide excellent panel angles.
Interconnection Application
We submit the interconnection application to Met-Ed on your behalf. This notifies the utility that a solar system will be connected to their distribution network.
Utility Review and Approval
Met-Ed reviews the application to confirm the system meets their technical requirements. Most residential systems are approved without issue.
Installation and Meter Upgrade
Once approved, we install the system and coordinate with Met-Ed for the bi-directional meter installation, which tracks energy flowing in both directions. Pennsylvania requires the utility to provide that meter at no additional cost.
Permission to Operate
After a final inspection, Met-Ed grants permission to operate. Your system starts producing power and earning net metering credits.
