Powering homes across central and southern Ohio

AEP Ohio serves more than 1.5 million customers from Columbus and Dayton through Canton and the surrounding rural communities. We design, permit, and install solar throughout the territory, and handle the AEP Ohio interconnection paperwork end to end.

    Net Metering with AEP Ohio

AEP Ohio offers net metering to residential solar customers as required by Ohio law. When your system produces more electricity than your home uses, the excess energy gets exported to the grid and you earn a kilowatt-hour credit. Those credits offset your future electricity usage.

    How Your Bill Changes

After installing solar, your AEP Ohio bill still includes a monthly customer charge and distribution fees. The generation portion, usually the biggest part, gets offset by your solar production and net metering credits. During high-production months, your bill may drop to just the basic service fees.

    Credit Carryover

AEP Ohio carries your net metering credits forward from month to month. Surplus energy generated during sunny summer months can offset higher usage in winter. At the end of the annual period, any remaining excess credits get settled at the utility's avoided-cost rate.
